Attributes: Now With More WildStar Flair

The WildStar fan community was buzzing all day Wednesday with the announcement of the second round of closed beta invites (check your spam folder) and the release of the patch notes for said upcoming beta. Now, I am not going to cover everything from WildStar Wednesday, you can read the entire post here, but one thing that really caught my eye was the renaming of the attributes.

Up until now, the attributes have been Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, and Dodge… just kidding, but as a tank that is what I like to think they are. Actually they were Strength, Dexterity, Technology , Magic, Wisdom, and Stamina. These six attributes have been renamed to Brutality, Finesse, Tech, Moxie, Insight, and Grit, respectively.

Breakdown

For the four known classes, the primary attributes will be:

  • Warrior: Brutality for Assault (DPS), Tech for Support (TANK)
  • Stalker: Finesse for Assault (DPS), Tech for Support (TANK)
  • Esper: Moxie for Assault (DPS), Insight for Support (HEAL)
  • Spellslinger: Finnesse for Assault (DPS), Insight for Support (HEAL)

This really isn’t anything more than just giving each attribute new name but I really like what they did here and I hope that new attribute names are here to stay. Stacking Brutality, Finesse, or Moxie to DPS sounds more appealing and less generic to me than Strength, Dexterity, and Magic; plus it really does give the attribute system some ‘WildStar-ian’ flair.     I think it’s important for them to change the names of the stats a bit given what we can tell about the Milestones system from the newest patch notes. Check the Esper’s Brutality rank 3 Milestone:
    Brutality: Rank – 3 [The Humanity]
    Whenever you use a Finisher on an enemy OR ally below 30% health, you deal OR heal an additional [250% Brutality] damage. This can only occur every 8 seconds.

    If Brutality was just named “Strength” many players coming from other MMO’s would just assume that stacking any of it was a mistake. This just helps them to think a little bit more before realizing that “well Brutality isn’t really the stat I want the most but hey if I get it to at least this much then I get this nifty benefit.”

      By the way, you should probably change the CSS for an anchor “a” tag inside of a “comment” tag to some color besides black. It’s pretty hard to see links on the darker comment color.

        Thanks, Unindel. I’d been meaning to get around to that. Changed it to be a more visible color.

      Excellent point. We’ll be getting benefits from attributes that are not our primary focus. So when we get some gear with a few random stats on it will not be totally useless even if it is not perfect for our class.
