I’m by no means new to the world of art. I’ve been drawing, painting, making jewelry, sculpting, snapping photos, and designing for about as long as I can remember. Joining the Wildstar community meant being right in the fold as community members posted their latest fanart for the community to see. There was only one problem:
I’m not a digital artist.
Digital art has always been just out of my reach. I’m taking steps to learn it, but the process is slow. I wanted to have mastered the trade by now to have my own contributions to the community, especially for my team. Alas, I’m apparently incredibly picky and need more time. However, I thought it was high time that I share a little bit about my artstyle, and, in doing so, share my latest Wildstar creation.
I’m something of a purist. If I’m creating art where I have material I can source for accuracy, then you will find me behind a computer screen with up to twenty different tabs open in an attempt to really get the feel of the subject. My most recent creation is a first take at what my character in Wildstar might look like. I can’t say that I’m married to this just yet, but I am fairly certain that I will be playing a Mordesh at launch. I scoured the Wildstar website and the Facebook page for pictures, looking particularly for female Mordesh. Then I tried to combine my source material with ideas I had in mind for a potential PAX East 2014 cosplay.
I always begin my sketches with source material on hand and a “skeletal” base sketch. Yes, I am your basic pencil/paper artist. And for detail sketches, I prefer #2 or mechanical pencils. Don’t get me wrong, fellow artists! I LOVE charcoal and graphite…. just not here (Here’s one of my favorite charcoal and chalk drawings, which currently hangs in my apartment).
So there she is. I’m still colorizing her bottom half and have plans to work on digitizing this… probably around launch time. :/ Hope you enjoy! And if it’s something you like and want a concept sketch of your very OWN Nexian, email me at email@example.com!Written by: Skya
